People
Manuel Gesto is a senior researcher in the Section for Aquaculture at DTU Aqua. He is the coordinator of the Nordic Network on Fish Welfare.
Manuel Gesto’s main research interests are fish stress physiology and fish welfare in aquaculture. His research focuses mainly in identifying and understanding the pathways by which stressors (environmental, social or physical) are perceived, processed, and how neuroendocrine and behavioral responses are subsequently developed in the fish. He is especially interested in how aquaculture-related stressors may affect fish welfare and system productivity in cultured fish, and in finding ways to promote and monitor the welfare of farmed fish.
